Israel strikes Yemen Hodeidah in response to Houthi attacks after drone attack in Tel Aviv

Israel strikes Yemen: The Israeli military said on Saturday (July 20) that it attacked several Houthi positions in western Yemen after the rebel group carried out a deadly drone attack on Tel Aviv the previous day. This was Israel’s first attack on Yemeni soil since the Israel-Hamas war began in October. Israel had threatened to open a new front against the Houthis.

The Israeli military said it had targeted several military sites in the western port city of Hodeida, a Houthi stronghold. It said its attack was in response to hundreds of attacks against Israel in recent months.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant issued a statement

Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Galant said in his statement, ‘The Houthis have attacked us more than 200 times. This was the first time they harmed an Israeli civilian. That is why we attacked them. If we need to, we will do it again.

The Israeli army said that it carried out the strike alone and had informed its allies about it. An Israeli Defense Force official did not say how many sites they had targeted. According to the information, the army has targeted the main entry point of the port, from where Iranian weapons come.

Statement also issued by Houthis

Houthi spokesman Mohammad Abdulsalam said on social media, “Israel has targeted its civilian targets. They have targeted fuel storage sites and power stations in the province. The aim of this brutal Israeli attack was to increase the suffering of the people and put pressure on Yemen to stop supporting Gaza.” Al-Masirah TV, a media outlet controlled by Houthi rebels in Yemen, said that the attacks resulted in the death of several people while many were seriously injured.
